For a portraiture exercise, I decided to recreate a portrait of Captain John Simcoe from AMC's TURN: Washington's Spies using the following photo : https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/c2/ba/e1/c2bae1314192f4dc57b5e507a9f37b9c.jpg .
Using this as a reference, I tried to go as detailed as I could while improving my digital skills in the process. From this exercise, I found that no matter what medium, I'm still more comfortable with coloring hair than everything else. In total, I think I put about 10 - 15 hours into this from start to finish; the most time consuming aspects were the skin and some editing to shorten the face.
